Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

Cooerwull Public School currently has two options of Special Religious Education (SRE) Students are able to attend lessons from the following local SRE providers.

Christian(Combined) provides teaching from the authorised curriculum CEP (including Beginning with God, Connect & Big Questions.

You can view the curriculum content here http://www.whysre.com.au/cepcurriculum

Catholic provides age-appropriate teaching from the Catholic SRE curriculum Christ our Light and Life.

You can view the curriculum content here http://ccd.sydneycatholic.org/.

For Kindergarten students and new enrolments in other years, Parents/Carers are asked to complete and return an SRE participation letter which is included in your enrolment pack, to indicate whether they wish their child to attend SRE classes or attend Non-SRE.

Students who do not attend SRE classes are provided with alternative meaningful activities (non-curriculum) in accordance with DoE policy.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
